What some of our patients had to say?

Lexi

I was looking for help at 20 weeks of pregnancy suffering badly with pelvic girdle pain which was proving difficult to walk and to do so in comfort. After a couple of sessions I improved and was able to walk with more comfort and longer to maintain my exercise during pregnancy. Anna Watson is very knowledgeable regarding women’s health physio in pregnancy and has provided me with acupuncture treatments and advice through gentle exercise to help me manage it throughout my pregnancy. I highly recommend Anna Watson for any women’s health issues and to make contact with her to assess your suitability for women’s health physiotherapy treatment.

I’ve been seeing Anna for a few weeks now due to back pain in pregnancy. Anna always makes me feel at ease and relaxed in our sessions, I walk away feeling better each week. Anna really listens to my concerns and ensures aftercare is discussed and understood before I leave each week.

I saw Anna at Head2Toe Physio in Leatherhead for two sessions during my second trimester of pregnancy due to hip and pelvic pain that was limiting my mobility. Anna was fantastic — she gave me clear, helpful information about pelvic girdle pain and how pregnancy can affect the body, which made me feel much more reassured. The sessions included targeted massage, and she also gave me exercises to do at home. I’m so pleased to say that after just two sessions, the pain has significantly reduced — so much so that I was able to enjoy a long weekend away with a fair bit of walking, something that felt impossible just a few weeks ago! Thank you so much, Anna 😄

Our frequently asked questions about Post-Natal MOTs

What is a Post-Natal MOT?2025-04-22T20:57:21+00:00

A Post-Natal MOT is a comprehensive check-up carried out by a specialist (often a women’s health physiotherapist) after you’ve given birth. It focuses on your physical recovery, especially your pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, posture, and overall function.

Who is it for?2025-04-22T20:57:51+00:00

Anyone who has given birth—vaginally or via C-section—can benefit. Whether you’re a first-time mum or have had multiple children, it’s a helpful way to support your recovery.

When should I book a Post-Natal MOT?2025-04-22T20:58:25+00:00

You can usually book your MOT from 6 weeks postpartum (or after your GP check-up). However, it’s never too late—even months or years after birth, it can still be valuable.

What does it involve?2025-04-22T20:58:58+00:00

It typically includes:

  • A detailed birth and health history
  • Assessment of pelvic floor function
  • Abdominal muscle check for diastasis recti
  • Posture and movement assessment
  • Advice on returning to exercise or daily activities
  • Tailored rehabilitation plan
Do I need a referral from my GP?2025-04-22T20:59:30+00:00

No referral is needed. You can book directly with a qualified post-natal physiotherapist or clinic offering this service.

What should I wear to the appointment?2025-04-22T21:00:00+00:00

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows for movement. You may be asked to do gentle exercises or movements as part of the assessment.

Is it painful or invasive?2025-04-22T21:00:28+00:00

Most assessments are gentle and focused on comfort. An internal pelvic floor check is often offered but is entirely optional and always done with your consent.

Will I need follow-up sessions?2025-04-22T21:00:51+00:00

It depends on your individual needs. Some people only need one session, while others benefit from a short course of follow-up care or rehab exercises.

Can I bring my baby?2025-04-22T21:01:27+00:00

Yes! Many clinics are baby-friendly and welcome you to bring your little one to the appointment.

Why is it important?2025-04-22T21:01:51+00:00

A Post-Natal MOT helps you recover safely and confidently, prevents long-term issues (like incontinence or back pain), and supports your return to exercise, work, or simply feeling like you again.

When should I book?2025-04-26T19:19:20+00:00

You can have your pre-natal consultation at any point before birth. Your MSK assessment can be any time after birth, you don’t need to wait for your GP check up to book this. Your Pelvic assessment must be 6 weeks after birth or after your GP check-up. However, it’s never too late— even months or years after birth, it can still be valuable.

What does it involve?2025-04-26T19:20:04+00:00

A detailed birth and health history. Full body evaluation focusing on joints and muscles around the spine, hips, pelvis and abdominals. Assessment of pelvic floor function. Tailored exercise and rehabilitation plan. Advice on returning to exercise or daily activities

Will I need follow up sessions?2025-04-26T19:20:35+00:00

This Post Natal MOT package includes 1 follow up session. For some people this maybe enough for them to achieve their goals, while others benefit from a short course of follow-up care or rehab exercises.

Can I bring my baby?2025-04-26T19:21:04+00:00

Yes! We understand the joys (and challenges) of new parenthood.
